I just added a Kent DI add-on to my Spetrapure RO setup. When it's producing water, the DI chamber is never quite full of water. Maybe 1" of air space above the water in the chamber.
Is this normal or is something wrong with the setup? It is producing water at the rate it should... |

hello,
i was reading about filters while i was getting ready to buy one and i seem to remember reading that the DI portion would never be completely full, somewhere around or above half full. and that it was normal. i hope that is what i read. HTH tony |

My Kent DI unit is always full to the top, as the input and output are at the top. I don't think it really makes any difference, however. As long as your DI cartridge is fresh and charged, it should produce the same quality of water, air or not.

Thanks for the input. So DI is not a "force through a membrane" process like reverse osmosis (Sorry, I can't remember my chemistry on Deionization)... As long as water is coming out of the output then, it should be working fine.
appreciate the help Rob |

My Kent RO/DI also fill to the top. Maybe you want to reinstall the DI cartridge to make sure it's in properly. Worth a shot.

DI Column
I see this question alot.
Either is OK. If you have a higher producing membrane, 75 or 100 GPD, you have more water availble to fill that cartridge. You are more likely to see that cartridge fill up. The more slowly the water passes through the DI, the better. You are only working with a 10 inch resin column. In water treatment contact time is everything! Ion exchange is the process used in DI. The small amount of TDS that is let after your Membrane is effectly polished with the DI. If you want more information let me know! Marianne Brizio

That makes a lot of sense, since I have a 15gpd RO unit, I should see a low water level in the DI chamber.
Thanks Marianne! ![]() |
