Best Magnet for Reef
I have a 72 Bowfront - looking for a killer magnet that can completely clean algae off the glass WITHOUT having to put hands in tank.
Can anyone suggest a good one. |

I've got a MagFloat and I love it. It's not strong enough to remove coraline, but it'll take off just about anything else.

You probably want a Magnavore (sp?) , I think the strongest around. You will pay big for one though.

I third the Magfloat. They are fantastic! Turns corners too! However, I do not recommend you buy the smallest one (it measures about 1-1/2" X 2-1/2"). This teeny one is not strong enough except for the smallest tanks with thin glass. I have both a medium sized one and the small one. The medium sized one is a very powerful magnet. You will love it!!! Why spend megabucks on a magnet if you don't need to?

I just ordered a Algae Free magnet for my new tank. The new tank has 3/4" glass so the Mag Float wouldn't work for me. I ended up buying a little bigger magnet than required just so it won't fall off the glass on me. I got the "Great White" from Northcoast Marines for $125. Pretty outrageous but the same sized Magnavore is running $181 at the cheapest place I could find it.
I will let everyone know what it is like when it comes in but I am expecting a beast of a magnet! FWIW, Nathan Here is a link to their site: http://www.aquariumcleaner.com/products.html |
