The Amp Master probably uses half the electricity

Those may be a bit big for a 40 gall tank. You would broablly end up with a tornado with that much water movement.
Any 800-1200 gph would probably more than enough for a 40. |

tendar has a good point, another reason to get the Amp Master, it can slowed down with a gate\ball valve with no ill effect what so ever to the pump. A Mag 12 uses more electricity then a Amp Master 3000....

is the ampmaster worth the extra cost? AM 2100 @ $218, AM 2700 @ $240, MD 1800 @ $98, MD 2400 @ $120. how many years will it take for me to c savings if i go with the AM? TIA

That all depends on how much you pay for electricity. IMO, its worth the extra cost. Another thing to think about is heat. The AM wont add heat to your tank like the Mag will.....

I have to agree with Golfish on this one. You get what you pay for. I returned a Mag 2400 after 3 days because of noise. It was louder than my Dolphin 3600 and it also leaked. IMO the Mag drive pumps are just glorified powerheads. If you take one apart you can see that the impeller is the same quality as a powerhead. They work ok but the larger ones are energy hogs. They don't handle back pressure well and a lot of them seep water. Good point is they are cheap and fairly reliable. Just my 2 cents,

sounds good to me...use ball valves on all the 3/4" lines to slow or increase flow. The pump is made for this

golfish, 2 more ? for u.
1)how many 3/4 outlet do u think i need to to get the max output? my plans r to run 1.5" up to the top then split it at the top to get the most flow(if it works like that). 2)what is the L,W,H.

Sher,
2- I think its like 11" long, 8" tall and 6" wide....around there. 1- since its a 40 gal tank I would think 3-4 would be more then enought. have you seen this. ![]() ![]() |

I agree mag pumps are glorified powerheads. They are fair pumps but when comparing them to ampmaster and the 9yr warrenty I bet you go throught 2-3 mags in that time. If you are lucky one will last. But I bet at least 2.= This almost would have been the cost of the ampmaster.= Buying 2 pumps and electricity. Maybe not but keep thinking that and the $$ won't mean a thing. The ampmaster is a much better pump
