Having a hard time getting a Stockman drainpipe (Modified Durso) to be quieter. The wife objectable sound isn't from the water draining down the pipe itself which is very quiet, but from the air inlet.
Making the air inlet smaller quiets down the noise, but also reduces the water flow through the drain pipe and then starts the drainpipe gurgle that I was trying to avoid. Making the air inlet bigger or adding additional air inlets doesn't seem to make any differance. I thought of running a length of flexible tubing from the air inlet valve, but figured it would just transfer the sound to where ever the tubing ended. Any hints or suggestions?

I actually used the plastic needle valve on top of mine. I can control the flow. If you do add flex tubing, it should quiet it down also. I am fairly certain the flex tubing if long enough to bend will quiet the sound. HTH....good luck.
FWIW, here is the stockman site http://home.att.net/~rstockman/overflow.htm You may try sending Ken an email also. I know he visits ReefCentral some. |
