No, I do not expect him to ship it to me for free. Rather, as we were chatting, I mentioned that maybe he could use regular mail. (hell, if it gets lost, its only $4) He said that he does not have stamps or anything so he would not be able to drop it into regular mail.

I was just perturbed because shipping cost more than the products I was ordering. As an online vendor "test" order, I would have to say the "test" failed.

I would not have minded picking up the items, but the option was never mentioned to me while we were chatting. Oh well.

Like I said, Bob doesn't set the shipping rate. He could NOT charge you like Marine Depot does on orders over 150.00 . I don't think that would be good business sense in this case. I really think your asking a lot here.

You said picking it up wasn't an option. Does Bob know you live 15 miles away or 1500 miles away? I have been to his shop many times to pick things up because shipping cost too much. Try ordering a fish from Flying Fish express who is in Downtown LA and see what that cost

I do not understand why you think I am asking for too much here. Like I posted above, I ideally would have either liked to have picked it up or just had him send it to me via USPS.

I assume he knew where I lived, because he asked for my zip code to enter into his shipping calc to let me know that it would be $5. Since he did not mention to me that I could pick up the items, I guess I incorrectly assumed that he did not allow pickups like FFE.

As you well know, saving a few bucks here and there on hardware, livestock and shipping can add up to a lot of $$ in the long run in this hobby, that is why I was seeing if there could have been an amiable resolution to shipping 4 strainers 15miles.
