Penguin Biowheel

Does anyone know if the Penguin Biowheel is interchangable with those in the Emperor 400? I'm setting up a new q-tank and I was going to buy a Biowheel for bio-filtration. I was hoping I could switch the actual wheel part from the new one with 1 of the 2 wheels from my Emperor, then I wouldn't have to cycle the new tank. Thanks.

Why use a biowheel at all? Use sand filtration.

I used to run a double biowheel set-up on my FO tank, and I refused to believe that a DSB could substitute for it. Not only does a DSB work as well, it also keeps my nitrates at zero.

For your q-tank, you may want to leave the bottom bare, which in that case the penquin filter will work fine. That's what I use when I set up the hospital tank. I don't know if the wheels are interchangable or not. Knowing companies, most likely there's just barely enough difference to make them not work with each other. If you have a lfs that sells both, maybe you can find out.

They don't fit.

They don't fit, even different penguins are different sizes. And If I remember correctly, the emporer 280? (smaller one), won't fit the 400, and vise-versa. But, in answer to your question, no, they won't fit.

Reinhold... How deep is your DSB?? I've read/heard every thing from 2" to 6". I'm worried about toxic gases building up and taking out live stock.
