Ive got the DP-800. It has been hocked up to my 50 for 2 mounths now as a return. I had it in the sump at first but was transfering heat to the tank so got a new acrylic sump to make it external. It runs lather warm to the touch and does make a little noice but not to bad. Over all I am pleased with it for the price but will be upgrading up to 1200 external MAK4 next mouth.

First thing I want you to do is checkout the impellor and reply back. It's my best guess that the dp is a repackaged sen which have been known to have rusting impellors at around 6mths. Oh yea thanks for asking so many questions voicing your choice and then totaly ignoring all the effort and wisdom put into replying to your post for recomendations. Things such as this frustrates me! And makes you look like an ignorant NEWBIE.

and i did my research before i purchased it............
For those of you familiar with "Sen" or "Sedra" aqua pumps, be assured that DP Series pumps are not similar except for external mold similarities. Dolphin has a partnership with the same factory that produced the "Sen & Sedra" pumps for the North American market. We have an exclusive partnership with our South Korean friends in which changes in Impeller design, wattage, performance, and product quality were made over the older designs that were sold under the Sen & Sedra product names. Specific changes included: Titanium shafts instead of steel shafts or the thinner ceramic shafts, Heat treated magnet coating that resists scratching and release of magnet fragments, Larger impellers for higher flow & pressure, More energy efficient motors that produce less heat. |

Specificaly on the model you purchased " This pump also features a balanced ceramic shaft, Single Piece Coated impeller."
I seriously doubt that this pump was re-engineered. However, I do believe that the company changed the impellor for the reasons I posted previously. |

JME I use to love sen pumps but I had 2 that only lasted a year. Maybe just mine. i didn't clean them to often ?? Maybe thats why. I've had better luck with mag pumps. But i seem to break the small ones easy= the threads. Since we are talking mak4 also I prefer them over my Iwaki 30 &40 usa version. But will soon replace those with the ampmaster maybe not soon but thats my plan. Seems those are the best so far. Never used the dolphin in sump pumps. JME

Just cuz its dolphin well remeber the sst pumps. Aqua pumps are solid have been proven over time. sst forget the name but they are made by another co. well we know how those rate. The dp are fairly new to dolphin so they may be really good. But for the price even if it's not what you expect it's not gonna hurt to bad.

Its not that the pump it self is li=oud it is more that it does vivbrate some so it needs to placed on a foam pad or something to cut down on the vibrating.
When it was in the sump I didnt hear it at all but heated the water up by 2 degrees so made it external. |

IME all internal or insump pumps without fans raise temp. That how they are cooled. I took out all my maxijet and added a seaswirl and one static flex return. My temp went down 3-4 degrees. I maintain an average of 80 instead of 83-84. I may get add a 400w
