I am currently looking to buy a RO system. I am looking at both RO/DI and RO/UV. Does anyone have any info on which would be better? From what I understand the RO/DI is supposed to remove all silicates and phosphates that would create an algea bloom. Though one source claims that DI has nothing to do with the removal of silicates and phosphates, that the RO takes care of 100% of those elements. Then there is UV which would kill any bacteria that goes through that filter. Thus if the RO/DI info I recieved was true, then the RO/UV would be the best way to go. Does any one have any opinions?

Ro/Di or RO/UV
I agree with organicreefer, you do not need to concern yourself with biological contaminents from the water supply. After a RO they are (if they were) removed. Do keep the supply hose from your RO to your tank clean. There is alway a potential there to grow unwanteds there, due to the fact it is wet.
UV has a better applacation is in the tank water. Lots of people get good results running a side steam through UV for disinfection. If you are going to invest in UV, that would be the place to do it. Marianne Brizio

The RO system will take your TDS way down, but not to zero. The DI is the polisher.
Example: My water is 197 ppm TDS, after RO 5-7 ppm TDS. DI brings the TDS to zero. Everytime you top off (without DI) it will increase your total TDS. It depends on your situation. Marianne
