I have a 60" tank and its lit by 2 right now. It is well lit, even though I have the 2 placed like there would be 3 in the tank, or at both ends.
I will soon have 3 on the tank.

Hi mambo!
Welcome to RL!
![]() I Think this depends on what kind of lighting you use, the width of the tank, the depth of the tank, how deep of a SB, actinic supplement? etc. etc. Usually 2 would do just fine though as Paul suggested....I think the general rule of thumb has always been 1 MH per 2' but Im sure Paul will agree w/me on this, that theory has been give or take also with succession! Im kinda in the same situation....but I have a 72" long and im trying to decide wether I want 3 or 4 MH's Im gonna try 3 first and My hood is gonna be easily adapted to fit another if need be. HTH
