Question Seeking Skimmer Recommendations for 20g

I have an empty 20g that I am thinking of setting up as a mini-reef in my living room, so I would want it to be as quiet as possible. I've heard that Prism skimmers are good for small tanks and pretty quiet. Any thoughts on a quiet skimmer?

I have a 20g hex with a 10g AGA sump/refug

I use the remora Urchin (in sump version) works great inconjunction with harvesting macro algea.

cheers,
Joe

I ran a CPR BakPak2 on my 20 for years. it was nice and quiet, did a great job, and now I have it on my 30. For <$130 IMO it's a good investment.

The prism's are Great! and mine only cost me like 50bux! from Jeff's Its not too bad on noise either! At first it might be a tad noisy...but not bad...after it breaks in it will get quieter

Question

I have a CPR Bak Pak running on a 55g in another room, but I think that would be too noisy for my living room. Is there anybody out there that has had both the CPR and the Prism that can give me an idea of how loud the Prism is in relation to the CPR?

I have had both and the prizm is louder. I have a prizm on my 26 in the bed room. It is on a timer so it turns off before I go to bed because it makes to much niose but it does a very good job for its size better than the back pack that I had.

try a Sanders Piccolo, many in the nano forum at Reef central use them. Plus they are only $20.

go skimmerless. i am on my 10gal w/ no problems. go to www.nano-reef.com we will help you w/ anything.

i would say go skimmerless and use the money for lights or corals. w/ that small of a tank you don't need a skimmer...actually you will deplete a lot of the trace elements skimming

later

if you go with the prizm, you can get a free 18 blade impeller from red sea that seems to quiet it down some and improve its skimming efficiency.
