Basement sump/refugium pictures

Well, I finally got a couple of pictures of my new sump setup. Unfortunately they are very low resolution and don't really show too much detail, but it's a start

When I moved about a month ago I added a basement sump/refugium. I just took a 125g tank and added acrylic baffles to it. Now all of my equipment (and the noise) is in the basement.

The refugium doesn't have much in it yet, just a VDSB and about 20lbs. of LR. I just bought the lights for it so I will add some macros soon.

Here's a full shot of it:

Thanks for the compliments. It is in the middle of the room, it makes life so much easier to access the whole sump.I ran all of the electrical cords up a support, across the main beam and down to the sockets so that I they are all out of the way and you don't have to step over them or worry about water spilling on them

The skimmer is a RS Berlin HO. I've been planning on building a platform for it out of PVC and eggcrate, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

The display tank is also 125g. I figured since I had the room now might as well make a big sump

FDM, I like the WIDE OPEN type sump / refugium It sure makes it much more easier to work with doesn't it ?
I am posting some photos of mine for anyone looking for ideas .
I would LOVE to have a dedicated extra room or basement but only have a one bedroom condo so the bedroom has to make do. Works great and I don't mind the waterfall sleeping effects either, actually it puts me to sleep rather quickly Actually i've got the system toned down rather quiet.

The RO holding tank on the left / the water changeout tank on the right.
The right tank runs contiuously .When I do a water change I shut the supply off to the tank , drain, fill, mix , and then switch the supply back on , it's that easy

Both tanks have pumps to fill and drain the changeout tank.

The mangrove tank has a supply filling it from the sump (to it's right) and it drains bac into the same sump.
The mangrove tank also has live rock and a brillo type algae that is a perfect refugium for amphipods.

This is the heart of the system , everything comes and goes here.
My 95 FOWLR and 29 REEF are right behind this wall.
The 2 pvc pipes running up the wall are the inlet and outlet running to my chiller on the back patio and then into a 1 inch sea swirl into the 95 gal fowlr behind this wall.

>>>This is the caulerpa / refugium that is lit 24/7. That is a ahsuppply 55 watt pc retro installed on top of the sterilite tub.
I harvest a good handfull of caulerpa about every 2 days and feed it to my FOWLR tank.
I never thought I would be able to grow caulerpa that fast but it's happening. Also it never goes sexual.
The pvc running horizontal against the wall is the outlet from the reef running into the caulerpa / refugium tank .The large pvc towards the front is the drain back to the main sump.

I've got this rigged so that when there is a power outage it doesn't overflow

FISHme, very nice setup. You have all of that in your bedroom? My wife would kill me if I even suggested that. I just moved from a 1 bedroom apartment, I was so looking forward to having a basement.

I have a very similar top off and waterchange setup as you. I use 2 33g trashcans. It makes doing a waterchange real easy. I can do a 30g waterchange in about 15 minutes.

kdm,
YUPPER, all in the bedroom, it's nice to be single, heck, when I was married was when I lost sight of my aquaria hobby.
Yeah, water changes , I do my 40 gal in about the same amount of time, like 15 -20 minutes taking my time with LITTLE effort

Organic,
I've had the mangroves since 1-19-00.
At first I planted them in sand but after while when I had a bad hair algae problem I removed the sand bed and now they are growing in styrofoam. The lighting for the mangroves is (2) 40 watt plant / aquarium bulbs. I change them about every 4-6 months . They are on a timer which is also my alarm clock in the morning, come on at 7 am and run till 9:30 pm.
Everything that I have is connected to the one system , total of about 200 gal when you add it all up.

I am very impressed with both systems and now have something to shoot for when I move back to the mainland and can have a real reef aquarium again. I have been tossing around ideas in my head and seeing your tanks helps out a lot. Nice!
