How would this work?

I just bought a house and I'm running out of money fast. So, instead of doing a closed loop with an AMP3000 and seaswirls I have another idea. How about using four 9500 Swr Air-cooled Powerheads (1380 gal per/hr each) on a wavestrip? I figured I could put two on each end and fire one end at a time. That would be 2760 gal per/hr. This will save me almost $450.

Check out this thread for info on the powerheads:
Global Aquarium Supplies And Swr Air-cooled Powerheads

Keep in mind that I still plan on using an AMP3000 for my refugium/sump return.

Larry,

I think those are the new GPH on those PH's. When I bought my 4500's, Todd said they were getting in the larger ones. I originally bought the 6500's, but they broke in shipping. I returned them for the smaller 4500's. The 6500's were about 6-7" tall above the shaft, so you would have to have a tall hood. The motor mount was also about 4" in diameter. I would either send Todd an email or call him and ask him about the larger ones. Get the dimensions, before you comit.

They do run well though. I know someone that did not have good luck with them however. He turned off the PH and cleaned it and the impeller broke. If memory serves they have no warranty, althought Todd at www.globeaqua.com gave him half credit in the store. HTH

I agree, I would use little to no powerheads. Get an ampmaster and just have your returns statonary= flex modular black pipe. You will/can save and but the seaswirls later. you can run them continuous and use a powerhead on a cheap timer if you want random current. It won't hurt just having current bouncing off the glass or aim any direction you want. JMO
