reguardless of the test. I've used paint and reflectors. You can tell a big diff with using reflectors. I used alum. flashing but find the pforeeflectors work much better. IME. Also the time I've taking to diy reflectors i should have just bought them in the first place.= gas material and TIME. But I don't like to diy. For some its pleasure but for me its pain.

diy reflector ....the first generation..

well here is what i have come up with so far...its for a single 175 w bulb.i couldnt really get the stuff to stay rigid how i wanted so i tried a wooden frame.i have mixed feelings about this reflector, and though i leartned a bit and i think i can do better,im not positive im not gonna just bite the bullet and order some at this point.

Dont really like the reflectivity of that....but heres an idea....cut a few strips of aluminum foil and glue them on a few/or all of them panels of that relfector hehe you may laught but for over a year on my 20gal. I had a canopy MH and aluminum foil lined on the inside....DID a great job!

FWIW. I really like the spectral aluminum.

I am also using some mirror polished stainless steel I had laying around for my "stand off" brackets to mount my HQI holders to. This allows me to mount the holder/bracket to somthing that will make it stand off of my current spectral reflectors.

i think im gonna just paint it white and be done with it.after reading that article, and adding that to what ive read in hydropponics books,i dont think a "shiny" mirror like surface is the best thing to use(even where ive read of tin foil being used ,it is reccomended to use the "duller " side, also i beleive flat artist white is a better reflector than tin foil).a mirror like surface will concentrate the light into "hot spots",not my desired effect.i currently use a white hydroponics reflector for my 400w bulb on my 93g,and it works great.

It may not be an issue with the double-ended HQI(s), as most of them would have a protective layer of glass, which would probably diffuse the hot-spots. Wouldn’t it?

Or use a hammer for the “Hammertone” effect
