need pump suggestions
I'm looking for a new return pump - currently on a 60 gal reef but I'm going to be stepping up to a 200 soon; I'm thinking maybe get a pump that will flow enough for the 200 (2000+ gph at 3') and throttle it back for my current tank, OR buy a pump that is HALF the pump I need for the 200 and buy another when I upgrade. In any case I'm looking for recommendations of a pump that is reliable and relatively quiet and fits into a tight budget as well as possible... looking at Iwakis, Little Giants, MAGs, etc... or anything else you can suggest. Ampmasters seem a little pricey for my budget.
Thanks in advance! |

I'd say if an Ampmaster is out of the question then look into a Little Giant. They are the Chevys of the pump world IMO. Cheap and reliable. Some reefers report that they are noisey but I don't think they are too bad. Iwaki's are better but a little more $$. I don't like the bigger Mags because they are energy hogs. They also tend to leak and are more of a oversized powerhead then a true pump.
