Since you seem like your going to be in the hobby for sometime, I would suggest the Amp master. Its a little on the costly side but it will pay for itself over time in the electricty it will save. It has zero heat transefer and comes with a 9 year warranty.

can my single overflow handle that much water? its a 1 1/2inch bulkhead... with that much flow i should probably look at getting the 1inch model instead.

I'm starting to get confused: You said earlier that you were going to use a Iwaki 40 and two SS's. You also said you had not planned that much flow. I had forgotten your post on your other thread.....

I would say your 1.5" bulkhead can handle some good flow, maybe 1800 gph (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know how much flow your overflow can handle. It looks like its 6"x6", but I would say it should do fine.

This is getting to be real familiar You might be better off to use a smaller pump like a Mag 12 for sump return. This way you can use part the sump as a refugium. How big is your sump going to be? If you plan to use the Amp Master with 1" Sea Swirls IMO, you should do that on a closed loop....

see the start it was going to be fish only... now its my reef. im running 2 sea swirls on each corner. looking for a nice return pump to feed them. thats all. it doesnt need to be 3000gph. it can be 1400 or 1500. just trying to get someone elses point of veiw. im thinking of the mak4.. im trying to fill the sea swirls without exceeding the limit with one pump.

another thought would be to reduce the 1" SS's down to 3/4 or 1/2 just to get the force of the flow with only 1500 gph. This way you'll have the 1" SS's when you upgrade tanks next year

Using 1" SS's with 750gph will feel like pouring a bottle of Coke out on your hand.

Talk to a few people before you buy a mak pump. I heard the make some noise.. You can reduce the flow on the Amp Master down to almost nothing and not harm the pump.

i wasnt sure if you could reduce it that much wihtout harming the pump... the ampmaster seems like an exellent pump.. it seems like with pumps you get what you pay for..

naser:

I think Sea Swirls are great products, and I have a 1/2" model in my 55. I'd recommend checking with the manufacturer to see if they have fixed the "noisy motor" problem on the 3/4" model.

I had a noisy, clunking 3/4" model. The manufacturer replaced it free of charge (and very rapidly as well,) and said that it was a problem particular to the 3/4" Sea Swirl. My 1/2" works perfectly.

ive read a post from sea swirl saying the 1 inch is the noisy one all the rest they have fixed. so if i buy an ampmaster 3000gph pump and get the 1 inch ssw's. will it still feel like pouring soda into my hand?
