    Question How many GPH&where??

I'm setting up a 105g Oceanic tank soon. I would like to know how Much GPH should my main return pump pump??(over-flow from tank into sump then back to tank w/ a spray bar or two) My told me Arill my tank so I did,and have a 1 1/4" bulkhead fitting at one corner of the tank I think that the inside of BH fitting is only 1"??
How much will that flow?? B: He told me I'd be ok w/ a Little giant pump that is only rated at 180GPH w/0 Now I heard on another BB that I should be pumping atleat 1000GPH
Does this sound right to you guys??? If this IS true do I have to have the main pump pump that much or can I say... pump 600-800GPH with the main pump then use power head in the take to gain the x-tra GPH needed??? Please help me I do have 1 lil giant in-line that rated @ 500GPH and 1 other thats rated @ 180GPH

    Hi wasted, welcome to Reefland!

The flow capacity of your overflow will determine the maximum gph you can run through your sump. That figure could very well be somewhere around 800 gph. You can add additional water movement to the tank with powerheads.

In your particular situation, you might want to aim for 500 - 800 gph through the sump and then add 4 powerheads for additional water movement in the tank. That would be just fine.

Thanks for you quick reply Does any know how much flow
my bulk-head over-flow can handle?? The inside size is 1" and I plan to run 1 90* elbow then use 1" PVC flex and add 1 Y fitting so that I can split some of the overflow into the refugium and the rest will go straight to the sump (The ref. overflow will spill into the sump also).
I want the overflow to handle a lil' bit more then the return pump will pump back so that I don't suck the sump dry. Right?? Also what should my "total" GPH flow target be ??1200+/-GPH?? I was also thinking of haveing the return from sump flow out of a spray-bar behind 1 of two rock piles and 1 more spray-bar on the output of a power head behind the 2nd rock pile, What do ya think??

Your over flow should handle around 800+ gph.
I would shoot for total circulation of around 1200-1500 gph in the tank. Adding 2-3 of the maxi jet 1200's power heads should do it for you with your larger pump hocked up.
You should put a ball valve after the pump so you can control how much water gets returned if it is stronger than you want.
