Question overflow? for scubadude!!!

what size hole is your overflow? i have 1.5inch about to buy an ampmaster pump, wondering how your 1inch seaswirls are doing? would you rather have 3/4? im looking to get this right before i buy. im worried about my 1.5 inch overflow wont handle the flow of the 2 1 inch seaswirl models. im thinking i should get two 3/4 models so there is more pressure. make any sense?

Hell NO! regardless of what ppl are saying about the 1" I like them....and they are NOT noisy! maybe if my tank was smaller than a 180 than i would have gone with the 3/4" I talked to Ed at Sea Swirl for hours and there is a NEW updated motor in the 1" models now too.

Very good question!. I think there are others here that could give some great input on this though too. My thoughts are that the 2 1" models will handle up to 2100 total GPH you need to figure out if thats how much you want....calculate the way you want to plumb everything....are you talking about a 1.5" overflow with a 2" standpipe? you mentiond AM are you talking about the 3000 GPH AM? how do you plan on plumbing it? that will be trucking alot of GPH through your sump....which leaves no room for refugium (or makes it harder) As far as will the stand pipe handle that much GPH? I think so if you use 2" pipe....Im pushing approximately 1900 gph through mine w/out a problem!! No gurgles! Try to explain your plumbing a little more and then me/anyone can probably give a better analysis....or atleast your plumbing plans explain distances elbows? longsweeps? spa flex? T's? etc etc.

Remember now guys. When we drop the Amp Master down to 1" pipe it slows down to 1560 gph if you use just one pipe. I think its like 1800 gph (give or take a few) if you go up as high as you can with 1.5" and split off to 1".

I'm pretty sure your 1.5" overflow can handle 1800 gph

if you look at the sump post i just put up im thinking about running the feeds around the sump to the other side(room issues). then stairt up for the return all 1.5 inch line untill the seaswirls. then use a 1 inch reducer to them. should be maybe one or two minimal bends, but i figure that pump can handle it. im not really looking for refuiguim room because ive got a huge skimmer im also plumbing dry.
