Glass 75 Gal. > Should it have a cross brace?

Basically what the topic says. I found a perfect used 75G Glass tank, it had been used as a freshwater aquarium, built in 1999. Walls of the tank appear to be around 3/8" (guessing, haven't measured.)

But it dawned on me today that every tank I've had over 40G has had a cross brace on the top of the tank. I'm paranoid now to fill this with water and 100#+ of LR to have the thing split open on me. Does anyone know of fully open top 75G+ tanks?

It would make me feel better to find out if there are others out there.

Does it have perimeter bracing? What I mean is is there doubled glass all the way around the perimeter. If so that acts as the cross brace.

there are tanks mafuactured without cross braces, oceanic markets them as "brick style".if it was made that way ,you shouldnt have a problem, and no center brace has its good points.my 93 g tank has no center brace.

No double glass, just single sheets and a plastic trim top/bottom. It is put together exactly like a smaller tank, it's just much bigger.

Hmm. Well, I guess to really answer the question would be to fill it on the back porch and see if the glass gives any, eh?

organireefer, how is yours built? is there some way they do this "brick style" or is it just a bigger tank put together the same way a smaller one would be?

thanks
