what's your favorite protein skimmer?

Would you guys be interested in having a pole on some different protein skimmers? I'm interested to see what everyone is using and how many people are using each one! First, we would need to find out which skimmers to put on the pole. I can't think of enough of them off the top of my head... just a few such as the bakpak, aqua remora, and prizm. Hey if this sounds interesting to anyone else, let's do it!

Also, please specify what type of protein skimmer... whether it hangs on the back or hooks up to a sump.

MyReefCreations

I got mine from "My Reef Creations". Went a little overboard with my specifications, however, I love this dual injector 44" baby.

Andy is a super guy to deal with, and all his skimmers and ca reactors are built to grow with your tank, future upgradebility is key in his creations. I’ll probably get a dual chamber Ca Reactor from Andy, after a first hand experience with his products.

As you can see his workmanship is meticulously flawless and his prices are very reasonable, built to suit your pocket and tank.

I mean, how often do you get an email from the vendor or manufacturer enquiring whether the equipment has arrived safely, especially after the sales has been made!?

I prefer becket skimmers =Bullet, aerofoamer hsa and MYREEF. the becket is the key but these are good makers. I second Euroreef. I wouldn't have any other. Depends on what YOU are looking for?

Aqua C Remora Pro with a Mag Drive 5 pump to replace the Rio that comes with it. Heavily stocked 55 gallon show tank.

I like my VS3 Life Reef skimmer. I have tried many and came up w/ this being my #1 pick. My other reefer friend agrees and bought the same one too. IMO

Reinhold, I am getting ready to set up another tank. 125gallon hex corner for fish only. I'm interested in the same skimmer you have (Remora Pro) and am wondering why you chose the Mag Drive 5 instead of the Rio. This will be a hang on skimmer and personally, we have had nothing but problems with Rios. We have a CPR Bak Pak on our 55 gallon and my husband is constantly having to take the Rio apart. We aren't familiar with the Mag Drive. Can you offer some additional input?
Thanks, Sue

Before I switched over to natural filtration systems(sump/refugium) for my tanks, I'd have to say that I liked the AquaC RemoraPro w/ a Mag5 pump. On my 72g, I hung the skimmer off the back of my sump so that it was not visible. Worked very well.

suekey1:

The Rio powerhead is noisy and unreliable. The Mag 5 is quiet and powerful. It is a little bulkier than the Rio.

I'm using a VS2-24 Lifereef driven by a 3-MDQX-SC pump off my sump on a 180. This is the first large tank and skimmer I've had. All I can say now is that it rocks and I have had no problems so far. Would have gone bigger but wanted to keep everything under the tank.
