Run skimmer - 24/7?
I have noticed that my skimmer pulls the gunk out for awhile then I get nothing. I haven't had anything in the cup for two days now.
I have a light tank load and I'm thinking the skimmer is running for nothing most of the time. I was thinking of running only during the night. I haven't added or used any type of food that I haven't been using all along. Any thoughts? I'm using a Lifereef VS2-24. Thanks, Bill |

Well judging by your profile you've got minimal "bio-load" for a 180g. Additionally, if you're not overfeeding, the clean-up crew will see to it that any "leftovers" are consumed along with what detritus is created by the fish. I would say, IMHO, that you certainly do not need to run your skimmer 24/7. HTH

I am also soon to be running my skimmer only 12/12. Mine does the same thing, where it only pulls stuff out durning certain times of the day. I am also setting up a refigium to help out with the non-skimming times.
