Howdy all,
Would a UV sterilizer be a good addition, or not really necessary? Has anyone heard of health problems due to using it? Any info. would be great. I have a 85 gallon hex. Thanks Kelley |

If your going with a reef tank I would say no. The UV will kill the good along with the bad.
I have never used one and have never had any problems. To keep parasites in check I had a few cleaner shrimp. Not only did they do a good job but they were fun to watch. I lost them during a power outage last winter and I will be putting at least one in my new tank in the next week or so. |

tech1,
This is still an area where there is an ongoing debate. But to quote Dr. Ron, “I see no use for them in a reef tank and consider them highly detrimental in such systems.” Regards, Scott
