Question Mag Drive Pumps

Howdy everyone.

I can't get a clear answer on Mag Drive pumps, so I was wondering if someone can help me.

Do you have to submerse a Mag Drive pump, or can it set outside the aquarium?

I have a Mag Drive 950

Thanks for any info.

Yes. I run Mag's exclusively on my 3 tanks and I use them both ways, submersible and external. No problem either way. In fact, I've been running a Mag18 externally for almost 1 year now w/ no problem whatsoever. HTH

As stated already any of the Danner Mag pumps can be run either in sump or externally. However I have heard of some having difficulty keeping a good seal on the 250s and 500s run externally. Sometimes there is a need to install a bead of silicone around the impeller housing.
