Return Pump too strong???

I have just "migrated" form my old 4' bow front tank to t 240g last week. The tank has 2 overflows with Durso standpipes. I run a return pump the is rated 1587G/hr and this seems to create a wee bit of a storm to the sump. It is noisy and creates zillions of tiny bubbles in the sump. I have 5 baffles in the sump and yet the water coming back into the main tank has some of the bubbles in it!

Q1. Is my return pump too strong?

Q2. How do I avoid the tiny bubbles from entering the main tank?

Hey PC,

Well, I certainly don't think your pump is "overkill" for a tank that size. I'm running about the same GPH in my 135g and love it. As for the bubbles and noise, well, I took my overflow output(going into the sump) and drilled a whole bunch of holes in it both slightly above the waterline and under. This eliminated alot of the noise and bubbles. I then simply placed some foam in one of my baffles to further eliminate any more bubbles. Also, without knowing anything about your pump, are you sure you're not getting any cavitation? How big is your sump by the way? HTH
