Durso overflow on outside of tank

I ran across this thread over on RC. MushroomBoy has his overflow on the outside of the aquarium. It really opens up the aquarium. I've seen this in LFS but never in a home aquarium before. It looks like something I might be interested in installing on my future 300 gal. Any thought on this type of setup?

Very nice, but it would require more room behind the tank.

I have my durso standpipe outside of my 20 show. My LFS installed a surface skimmer box in my tank and drilled the back for the standpipe. With a tank my size it just made more sense to use space behind the tank instead of in it. No problems at all!

I agree but if the tank had 1" closed loop bulkheads behind it I wouldn't think it would take up that much more room. Maybe an extra inch. Still, it is a good point.
