Protein skimmers for eclipse

I just bought a new eclipse 12 that I am going to use to set up a nano reef tank in. Im trying to find a suitable protein skimmer that does not require me to totally destroy my brand new hood Does anyone have any suggestions for a good skimmer that would work. Thanks.

Hmm....Kalispell....nice area.

I took the biowheel out of my Eclipse, and used the area where it was to add a Bakpak. I wouldn't say I totally destroyed the hood to do this either, though it did require a little cutting. The hood still provides the lighting, and circulation with carbon filtration.
I am not familiar with the size of an Eclipse 12, though. If 12 refers to a 12 gallon tank, a Bakpak may be too bulky for this to work.

Yes it is a twelve gallon tank. This is my quandry. I dont want to destroy a brand new hood (even if it is a "eclipse" filter). I dont have the room in the back for a hang on either. I was wonder if there is some how a guy could put a protein skimmer outside the tank and run tubing to and fro. Any Ideas

Cool

You could use an Aquarium Systems water pump with some tubing to move water to a 10 gal sump with the skimmer in that. you need a second pump to return water to the tank. You'll have to mess with flow rates to keep water levels even. It's a little bit of work, but also gives the added benifit of increased water volume. Hope this helps.

Put 2 small bulkheads in the top sump, add an under the tank sump with a protein skimmer, use a power head to pump back up. If there is uneven flow it will just flow back into the sump, no flooding problems.
