pump question
I'm in the process of setting up a 75 gallon mini-reef. The tank is a "reef ready" Oceanic and I'm deciding on the return pump. Suggestions?
What do you all think of Rainbow Lefegard's system? I like the idea of not having the heater in the sump (or tank), so this is nice, but I'm unsure of their quality. I know that dolphin's ampmaster3000 seems to be a good pump, but I think that would be too much flow. Then there's always the mag drive... Thanks!! |

Unless you're going to really add some serious sumps, refuges, sea swirls, closed loops, and skimmers to that system, I would steer away from the high-capacity pumps.
Small tanks actually benefit better from a few small pumps, rather than a really large one. I have a Mag9 on the return on my 75 Oceanic. It provides plenty of flow. I use Hagens (powerheads) on the inside of the tank to move the water around a bit.
