Help with 44 pentagon

I just bought a 44 gallon pentagon to go into my living room. The problem I think I will have is the lack of space underneath. I'd like to add a sump so I don't have the powerheads visible, but I really don't think I have the room. Any one have any suggestions or ideas for this tank??? It will be fish only with plenty of LR. Thanks

Hi chet-tonja!

Exactly what kind of space do you have in the stand? Small sumps can be just as functional especially with a smaller tank. Won't a 10 gallon tank fit under the stand?

if you dont want powerheads in the tank you should consider a closed loop.
like scott pointed out too ,a small sump will work just fine as a place to put a skimmer/heater/ carbon/whatever.
a small return pump and a closed loop pump should be plenty for a 44g i would think.hth

A ten gallon tank is too long, but after looking I will probably go to Wally World and buy a Rubbermaid trash can. That should be tall enough to give me enough room for the water, skimmer, etc. What is a loop pump??? Never heard that term before. Any other ideas? I just went to Premium Aquatics and bought a nice base piece of Marshall Island rock to get her started in the cycle. Really nasty stuff on it!

a closed loop is simply an external pump with the intake and output in youre tank.do a search .i use a closed loop on my 120,an ampmaster 3000 on 2 1" sea swirls, that along with the return from my mag 18 gives me some pretty crazy water movement

Well what I ended up doing today was make a closed loop with a homemade spray bar. My Mag pump is kicking ars and it all worked out better than I thought it would. I have alot of circulation with plenty of surface movement and no ugly powerheads hanging in the corners. Thanks so much for the idea of the closed loop!!!
