I think that the pinpoint salinity monitors are a thing of the past....if you want an accurate measure of your salinity then go with a refractometer. JMO![]()
Does a properly calibrated monitor work as advertised? I just got one and it shows my salinity far less than my hydrometer. I thought I was running at 35 ppt but the monitor shows 31.
When I run my hydrometer, I cool the test water to 75°F before taking a reading. Even so, I know that hydrometers can be a little problematic.
Any opinions about the pinpoint salinity monitor would be helpful.

OK...we've just established that I was better off with a refractometer. BTW, the little booklet claims that the probe is more accurate. *shrug* Who knows, but I doubt it's more accurate than the refractometers that I use in the lab. I just don't have $600 to spend on a high-precision refractometer.
Niether here nor there--I wasted my bucks on the probe. Can I rely on it? Or am I doomed?

I agree with Scubadude, However there was a thread not so long ago and most of the so called "want to be" experts claimed the meter was better..........I wonder![]()
