only if you replace it with something else. It needs the bracing
There was a thread on how to replace the plastic cross member with acrylic. I don't remember where it was you might can do a search and find it. It was simple though. Cut the acrylic to proper width and length. put under plastic cross member and tape to hold there Drill three holes in each end and use plastic bolt and nuts to secure then cut the plastic member out. You can float a bowl under the drilling area to catch the shavings good luck and don't cut it out first or leave it out. |

Thanks,
Thats a great idea. I will pick up a piece of plexi-glass and screws. I tried searching "crossmember" but came up empty. CYA Mortman

Mortman, I would recommend not changing the center brace. Any changes might cause a leak, etc.

Yea, might be sorta risky. But has been done, not by me though.
The trick is to leave the original brace on untill you get the acrylic drilled and bolted in place then cut the plastic one out, that way it keeps the same tension. I still have to agree that it might be risky. If/when we get a metal halide for out tank I will still probably do this mod. Try a search on "center brace". and maybe "shadow" Last edited by TEO_2112; 03-07-2002 at 11:55 AM. |
