PM Bullet skimmers?any good?

Well some of you know I'm setiing up a 105g reef tank which will have a DSB in the main tank and in the 20-30g Refugium. I DO have two Berlin skimmers now (not turbo's) But have been thinking about starting it off right with a "good" skimmer.
I have read a few articals of the new PM "bullet" skimmer. It appears to be a very good system. Any of you have this skimmer?? What do you think of it??Also it seems that they need a powerful in-line pump to power it, How do have it plumbed??
Thanks for any input
Mark

Mark,
Its probably one of the best skimmers sold. It does need a big pump to run it tho....

You might want to check this link out http://www.myreefcreations.com/

Thanks golfish
I take it the MR-1 is soppose to be equal to the PM Bullet 1 right??
What type do you run?? I know that MYReef's skimmers are cheaper but which is better?? Also do you have to raise the skimmer up in the sump so that the ouput is above water level??

Mark,
From what I have read the MyReef skimmers are copied from the PM Bullet skimmers. I can't say much more because I have never used one. I'm sure you will be happy with either.

Thumbs up

I have the PM Bullet-3 which is their large skimmer. I have it on my 125 gallon reef. You do need a large powerful pump to run it. They suggested that I could even use a Iwaki 70RLT!! I tried the 70RLT and it was just a little to large. I had to throttle down the pump to much. I like to run my pumps open as much as possible. I am now using a Iwaki 55RLT and that is just right. Mine is plumbed externally on my sump. The skimmate is a little "wet", but it always pulls out the nasty's. My skimmate is a dark tea color. Before this skimmer I had a ETSS Gemini 750 downdraft skimmer. I would say overall my results are about equal. Good luck.

A B1you can use a mag12. You can use smaller pumps but work better with large pumps. I use a B2 but my mak4 is a little to much pump. MYreef he make them so you can modify or upgrade at a cheaper price. Dunno which is made better. I like my B2

You want a top of the line skimmer, I sugest you try a Lifereef skimmer, you will not be dissapointed, and neither was I, to me and alot of others this IS the best non comercial skimmer on the market, quality and craftsmanship is superb, and it does a fantastic job, I use a VS3-36" kind of bit for my tank I have a 110gal reefready setup, with 5 fish one of them is a NasoTang which produces lots of waste especially the Naso which is a ravenous eater, this skimmer is good for up to 400-500gal tank, no need to upgrade the skimmer in the future once I get bigger tank, this skimmer is NOISLESS, efficient as hell "pulls out the darkest crap you will ever see, no fidling ever again with the gate valve once set at the level you prefer for you setup, less time playing with you skimmer and more time enjoying your tank,I would recommend this skimmer to anyone looking for a top quality skimmer, cya.

So whatcha pay for the life reef skimmer?? I would agree with the great workmanship I have a piece of a lifereef sump. The only thing that gets me is the PM's,MYreef, and few others ar egoing with the "beckett" injecter which seems to be the best And after looking at the Lifereef skimmers none of his designs are useing it.

Mark,
Read this thread. This might have something to do with why Jeff at Lifereef doesn't want to use a Beckets head.

IME I've seen most skimmers. I prefered beckets over lifereef and euroreef. But they are all well built= PM,Eru and lifereef. Just i prefer becket skimmers. They all will suit your needs. They are a little better built than ets and aqua c skimmers IMO. Also i prefer clear cedar for my deck before redwood To bad the link was closed. It's like anything else preferance when all being equal

the skimmer ran me $450 with shipping, like I said it is a great skimmer, my tank sits in the living room, I used to have a ETS skimmer but it made tons of noise and was not as efficient as my Lifereef, the Lifereef is NOISELESS and is efficient as hell, why do you prefer beckett skimmers is there a reason for that, all skimmers do the same thing, the pull in air which mixes with the water which produces thousands of air bubbles in an enclosed chamber, which in effect pulls out scum from your tank, it's just that some are more efficient than others, to me this is the best piece of equipment that I ever bought for my tank, this skimmer will last me a very long time, it might be a bit on the pricey side, but like the saying goes you get what you pay for, I used to fall into the trap like many others trying to save a few dollars and in the long run spending more cause the product we bought was not efficient enough for the needed purpose, and eventually spending a few more dollars and getting the product you should have bought in the first place, originally I was looking at the lifereef skimmers but chose the ETS "less money and nice advertising", which was a big mistake and wasted money, it is sitting in my closet at the moment, so when I wanted to get another skimmer I did not even hesitate and ordered myself a Lifereef, it was the best decision I ever made, I have been in the hobby for quite some time, and this is the best skimmer out there, cya and gl.

Sorry wasted, I was referring to the other Mark (golfish) and sorry Mark, I got your mail...and I misinterpreted. My humble apologies!!

Sorry Wasted, I won't make skimmer recomendations or comment on them in public forums. I am kind of biased.

skimmers all mix air with water but the becket skimmers I've compared with others produce thicker foam imo. I've seen most skimmers in action and this was my choice. I've seen aerofoamer and euroreef side by side. IMO the foam was alot thicker. i saw lifereefs foam wasn't as thick =bubble. But euroreef and lifereef are quieter than becket skimmers. Lifereefs work better with large pumps also. So if I wanted quiet I would use euroreef. But they are limited to in sump= lifereef you can use out of sump in sump any pump = more options. Lifereef was my choice until i saw aerofoamers. But noise isn't an issue for me. They can make noise but not much IMO But like i've said earlier its all preferance I choose a bulit skimmer cuz at the time I wasn't getting good service from the person selling aerofoamers so it ticked me off. Beckets make anything foam thats why they are called pond foamers. But then again alot of ppl go skimmerless so why even have one theres many choices. The post was on Bullet skimmers yes they are well built.
