Need a new RO, what would you buy ?
I am in the market for a new RO, mine is pretty good but I want a new one. I think I want an RO/DI but not sure. Not wanting to spend over $300, spectrapure or Kent or any sugestions and links to good deals. Clear cannisters are a must and a pressure gauge would be a plus.

I have a kent and I'm pretty happy with it. Check out www.marinedepot.com I think you'd probably like the Hi-S RO/DI model by Kent.

I recently bought the 4-stage 100gpd Oceanus RO/DI from Aquatic Reef Systems. It's on sale now for $199. I'm really pleased with it; well made; quality components; good service; and performs great. http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/
Whichever system you buy, make sure to get a membrane flush kit and a TDS meter if you don't already have one. Dick ![]() |

I totally agree with FishDaddy. I have an Oceanus and love it! I recommend them highly.

The 100gpd RO/DI looks great, do you think there will ever be problems getting the membrane refills ?

Snoop, no I don't think so other manufacturer's membranes also fit this brand of RO/DI.

Errr, that would be risky. Some of these companies just go belly up. Would it not be safer to go with someone that will be around for a long time like Kent or another major brand.

Why is it risky, if you need replacement membranes down the road just buy them from another company. Besides I don't think Aquatic Reef Systems is going anywhere a lot of people use their products. Just my 2 cents...

That is what I am asking, can I just go buy another companies membranes and put in it. I mean can I use something like a Dow membrane, and which one ?

Hey Snoop, I can not answer that question but I know who can! Call 866-260-REEF and ask for Brian. He can answer any questions/concerns you may have about Aquatic Reef Systems RO/DI units.

Snoopdog, I agree w/the others about Bryan at Aquatic Reef Systems. I shot him an e-mail Thursday morning asking him a couple of questions about his products. He called me that evening and before I knew it, had sold me one of his units even though I was still looking around (good saleman? or, easy sale?). I think he is an option for you to think about, especially if you let him know that you belong to one of the BBoards that he sponsors on. (seems like he mentioned that he uses DOW but not real sure).

Well, sounds like a winner to me. I will keep his number around and should have the money in the next week or two.

I like my 100 GPD Oceanus from Bryan at ARS. Works well. I've called him twice with questions and he was easy to talk to and knowlegdable. Another nice thing is that his 800 number is actually his cell phone so you always get through. I ordered my filter at 8 o'clock at night. Shipped next day. (kinda cruel to himself

Snoop, the flush kit flushes any sediment that may have collected in your RO membrane out. You flush the RO membrane after every time you use your RO/DI unit. It is basically a 1/8" tubing in the shape of a half circle, there is also a bypass valve that when you flush the system it bypasses the other cartridges and only allows water to flow through the RO membrane. Does that make sense? Bryan (ARS) will walk you through on istalling it. ARS recommends the flush kit to extend the life of your RO membrane.

Reefdope ~
The flush kit you can make by yourself (I did, and while your at it make a DI bypass http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...ight=di+bypass ) I also bought my TDS meter at a later date, its one of those things that you don't need but should have. (If you are a member of RC you can get a discount at ARS, just a little FYI )
