Improving AGA overflows??
I have a Reef ready AllGlass and was wondering if anyone has improved the overflow. My output to the sump has that sponge with the float to keep it from gurgling. I removed the sponge but the float is still there. It seems to me that if I took the float out and put in a Tee fitting in on end or a + fitting and brought a pipe up high from the added fitting this would increase the flow to the sump. The added pipe would bring in air so you wouldn't get the noise.
Does this make any sense. ![]() |

Gee. That sounds better than what I thought of. Does this "Durso" work? I might be wrong but I think that float in my overflow is restricting water going into the sump. I'ld like to be able to push more water around. If I can find some time this week I might it that set up a try. Thanks.

Oreefer, Thanks very much. That is what I was thinking of.
I will give it a try when time permits . I raised my standpipe up before setting the tank up. I saw that long drop in the overflow coming before I added any water. |

Actually I finished putting the durso in my AGA 125 overflows today and work pertect. I did have to cut off 1/2" on the "T" and street ellbow but fits fine. I went with the 1 1/4" pipe reduced to 1" at bulkhead.
I was using the AGA kit that comes with tank for 6 mounths and it works well but go tired of having to clean the spounges every week. It actually is pretty quite the aga stand pipes that is. Any way the aga overflows can only handle a max of 600 gph per overflow this info directly from AGA. |

Hey tendar, Would you say that the Durso that you put in was worth it or is it running about the same?
Thanks, Bill |

It was worth it for not having to clean the spounges all the time but other than that it is about the same for noise. Since you are running with out the filters I would change over to durso if the noise is loud for you. It doesnt increase flow any and I actually have my return pump cut back some since I run 4 MJ1200's on a wave master pro so I only run like around 700-800 gph through my overflows.
It was a pain in butt putting in the durso though because I had to replace the bulkheads since the ones that come with aga tanks are slip and to do a durso its easier to use threaded bulk heads and of coarse when I went to remove the bulk heads they lockedup sue to sand working its way into the treads to had to use a Dramel to cut them off. Anyway yes I think they are worth putting in. They wont increase the amount of waterflow but are easier to maintian and quiter. |

Thanks for the reply, I don't really have a noise problem so I think I'll hold tight with what I have. When I set the O/F up I put in a threaded fitting above the AGA bulkhead in the overflow so I could change things around later if needed.
Thanks, Bill |

leave the AGA overflow in your tank. You will get no benefit from the mod. Been there done that and went back.

Bryan, are you shure ?
I just bought an AGA 120 with corner overflows . I have been reading this post and am confused now . I have the factory overflow kit but have not set it up yet . I really want to make sure I set it up the best way. Is it possible to use all the 4 holes as drains to the sump for more gph flow ? |

Making all 4 holes as drains will not increase the amount you can puch through the tank because the over flows are limited to a max of 600 gph. I have a 125 with MAK$ on it and with it turn of full it is pushing as much as possible over the over flows with out flooding. I even email AGA and they said that the over flows have a max of 600 gph.
