Hagen 802 Powerheads Chatter
I have three 802 powerheads connected to a Red Sea wave maker. When the powerheads start up they chatter. Does anyone know how to stop the chatter? Maybe I should glue the impeller to the mag? I am working on a very pretty tank but the chatter of the three powerheads starting all the time really stinks.
PS I just got the 802's so My wife won't even let me think of replaceing them. It's fix the chatter or live with it. Thanks Chris ![]() |

Thanks Naser, Maybe I have powerhead failure diseased, yes that must be it!! I will tell my wife that a poor worm has infested my powerheads and the only one's that will work are the MJ 1200. Do you think she will buy that?

Ok I can change them when she is not looking that no problem. The real problem is how do I hide the bill? She does all the banking. HaHa I always loose when it comes to money.

I know a dude who lost a fox face because it got sucked into the impeller of his 802, he told me they did'nt come with a guard. Now he runs Maxijets on a RS wave master and hasent lost a fish for 2years.
That would definetly be my argument ![]() |

The 802"s are good powerheads , just not good on wave makers.
I got one left from the two I bought about 16 years ago and have run it continuously since I bought it with only one impeller replacement. I don't use it on a wave maker. I use the MJ 1200's on the rs wavemakers. I was married once to and remember the wife was in charge of the money. Boy if I was still married I would not have this hobby . ![]()

when shes not home just take them out of the water. run them dry untill they break. show her they do not work then go buy new ones.

Why not be truthful and tell her that you goofed? The MJs are not really that expensive, esp. not when compared to the possible expense of a blown ph in the water.
BTW, I know of one person who has 802s on a wavemaker. He cycles about every 10 min. They seem fine. He must be lucky. I can hear mine click on the rare occasion when I turn them off and on, so I can understand your concern.
