DAP Aquarium silicone ?

Ok my tank has been finally fixed!!!!!! YES. I really need a round of applause for fixing my first acrylic crack. Took the great advice from you guys and grabbed myself some Weldon and some scrap acrylic piece and stuck it on the inside.

However, this tank is about 7 years old and i see that it's silicone is peeling, not to mention changing to a greenish-blue color. I called up Home Depot to ask for some silicone and they have an Aquarium sealant by DAP safe for Marine and Freshwater.

Just wondering if anyone has had bad experiences using this product, or if not, which product do you recommend. Hopefuly this will be the once and final time I will silicone this thing.

This is an acrylic tank. It is siliconed in the inside and it's starting to peel off. Should I leave it as it is? I just don't want water to come out of the tank

Thanks,
Elmo

Normally there should not be silicon on a an acrylic tank. It does not have the strength to hold acrylic at high pressure (acrylic deforms too much).

If the tank is still dry then I would remove the silicon and check for leaks. If it does leak then you would want some weld-on on the seams that are bad or had silicon previously.

You will need to remove all the silicon before using the right stuff first.

Sometimes people will silicon in an overflow... that is not the case here right?

Question

Nope, not the overflow. Its definitely was once clear silicone in the inside linings of the tank, but now has turned a bluish-green color. And it is very easy to peel off (already loose). The big crack is fixed and I dont see any leaks coming from the bottom of the tank. I still have a lot of WeldOn left so should I just use that and not re-silicone?
