I am setting up a new calcium reactor and would like to hear of others mistakes and things to avoid. I have the reactor, regulator, selanoid, ph monitor (for tank), ph controller, and 5 lb co2 bottle. Thanks in advance. Uel

What kind of reactor is it? I'm sure different reactors have different quirky features. My Korralin reactor used to develop a Co2 buildup at the top of the reactor chamber. I replaced the solenoid and the guages on the Co2 bottle... no help. I eventually replaced the reactor with Coralhound's dual chamber reactor. Great reactor... Never a problem.
General things to look out for initially are: The pH of the effluent... a good target is 6.6 or 6.7 The pH of the main tank... you want to make sure you don't depress your tank's pH by way of the reactor. The added Co2 could drop the pH in your tank. Should stabilize as the reactor is fine-tuned. The Calcium and Alkalinity levels in your main tank... They should stabilize as you dial-in the reactor over time. I don't know how much research you have done, but here is a basic article on the use of calcium reactors... http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.htm Enjoy! Reactors are great! Bob |
