Skimming a 10gal Nano
Greetings all: I have a 10gal FOWLR that has been up and running for about a yr now. It has about 14lbs of cultured Gulf rock and a 2" aragonite sand bed. The only occupant at the time is a small maroon clown. It is lit by a 10K 36watt PC. I use a Tetra 20-40 hang on powerfilter with a Piccolo skimmer sitting in the chamber where the filter would normally be installed. Question? Would it be wise to turn down the flow of the incoming water into the filter or leave it wide open?. Not sure if a slower flow would help my skimmer to be more efficient in removing DOCs. Thanx CAJUN ![]() |

You could try different settings for a period of time and compare the results to determine which way is best for your situation.
With a ten gallon tank, I would personally do without the skimmer and go with more frequent water changes which will lower many other increasing levels as well as dissolved organics.
