What ro/di units do you use?

Looking to buy a spectrapure ro di unit, however wonder what other units are available. Also, are most company units similiar or are some better then others. Currently using a marineploybio filter which is not working for me.

I get my water from a kent RO...(not the owner)The Quality is great!

    I've had an Aqua-Medic
RO/DI before, I didn't like it and neither did my fish.
They said aquariums would be relaxing......(yeah right)

I bought my last one from a place called Air Water and Ice. It was their 75gal a day five stage model one,and came with two extra prestage filter replacement cartriges. I'm pretty sure it was on sale, but they have very good pricing. When I got it it looked to be in a pretty old package, but that is the only thing I see wrong with it as it has served me perfectly. It fills my 48gal Rubbermaid overnight.

Hey Chip, try Aquatic Reef Systems. They have very nice RO units, I have had my Oceanus RO/DI unit for about 6 months and I am very happy with it. Their units are superior quality and their customer service is great. Call Bryan at ARS and he will set you up....

    Thumbs up

I second the Aquatic Reef Systems unit. I've had my Oceanus 100 gallon/day since (yikes) Sept. 11, 2001. You can imagine how I remember that. It's worked fantastic and the customer service is great!

What about RO/DI units for drinking water?

I have a RO/DI unit under my kitchen sink, but I think its purpose is just for drinking water. I've barely just got in the reefkeeping hobby and i'm such a newbie. But my question is, can I use that unit as my source water for top-offs and makeup water? I looked under the sink and it seems that some of the lines go through copper pipes. I know copper is bad for certain tanks but i'm too damn cheap to buy a real RO/DI unit dedicated for my tank. Any opinions or questions will be helpful, thanks.

So long as the copper line goes before the RO unit, then you should be fine. Before I bought my RO/DI unit, I used the one under my sink for topoff. The only problem was that it made only approximately 10 gallons a day.

Thumbs up Aquatic Reef Systems RO/DI

    Chip

My money and opinion goes to Bryan at Aquatic Reef Systems. Why? Great unit (Oceanus 100gpd), great service, great guy! You can't go wrong!

I bought my unit in December '01, it's working great. I went to Florida in Feb, 02, visited Bryan's operation, had lunch with the guy, (he bought ) and when he mentioned something about a bypass flush kit, I told him I didn't know about that, he gave me one.

I mean, how do you top this guy? Truth is you can't! Ooooops, sorry Bryan, You'll probably be buying a lot of lunchs now, huh.

The drinking water RO units don't filter as well as the made for fish tank units do. I have done a little research on this and found the drinking water RO membranes are a lower grade membrane.

BTW, I use a Specrtapure CSP 80 DI

    I have 3 RO/DI units

1 Oceanus 100gpd 4 stage with booster pump RO/ and Dual DI cartridge bought from ARS This is my favorite RO unit! This unit will take 500 TDS water and make it 3 TDS or lower and does it in a flash!

1 Spectra Pure 20 GPD RO unit....it works good and was my first one
    bought from Jeffs

1 Tornado 3 stage RO/DI unit 55gpd bought from ReefPure....I know dont even say it!

Yes most RO units are the same....but I agree w/ Mark NOT the drinking RO units...those are not as good try to get an RO unit with a flush valve on it too! ARS you cant go wrong

I'm using a Kent Marine 3-Stage model RO.

Works well so far. I would however, get the clear model next time, instead of this blue one. I can't see through it!!!!!
