Question Anything negative with a beckett skimmer?

I'm looking into upgrading my skimmer from a Venturi Top Fathom to the new Beckett. It is for a reef tank with about 130g total water volume.

Aside from needing a big pump and thus using more electricity, are there any downfall on this type of skimmer?

The new skimmer MUST be outside the sump. Any suggestion on model and name is higher appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

A becket skimmer is very similar too a normal venturiskimmer, but its far more efficient.

I'd recommend you a deltec APF600, and i DONT sell them!!!
I love my AP600 IMO its better than any other skimmer....
They said aquariums would be relaxing......(yeah right)

    Anything negative w/becketts

Yes....they require stronger water pumps to skimm stronger....Thus they arent as effecient as Counter Current skimmers....however for tight areas where you dont have much room beckett skimmers are probably as good as it gets....the thing with Counter current skimmers is you need more height generally

My new beckett in operation. Top notch skimming performance. It does use a larger pump. My Euroreef only used a 55watt Sedra, and this uses a Mag24

But it puts some kind of water through it. And the 260 watt pump, keeps the heaters of, so its a good trade.

A smaller pump may be used also. Frank & several others have told me to try a Mak4 on my skimmer. It uses 1/2 the wattage of the Mag 24 and in many,s opinion, will pump as good. I will post my views once I find one to try.
