Reliable, Cost Effective Tanks
Good day all,
As you may have read, I am planning my new tank. I have some of the specifics worked out but am lost in regards to the tank. I have thought out 2 different sizes; 36x24x20 and 24x24x20. I am going to go with a Clam and SPS tank, running about a 15 gallon sump. My problem is finding this custom size tank at an affordable price. I have talked to Rocky and will definitely keep him in mind but he is the only price I have received. Acrylic or glass, I have no preference. I am going with 1 corner overflow with a 1.5" drain. Anyone have any ideas on where to go or what a reasonable price would be? Thanks, Scott Z. |

With a tank this shallow, you could consider doing it plywood w/ acrylic windows....make the tank where its viewed more from the top then the sides of the tank but wire the electrical lighting and pumps where you could turn on/off real easy w/out any issues to deal with so you can take pics of it w/out a whirlwind of current goin on. The ply can be reinforced w/epoxy or fiberglass resin and netting. to make it seal proof

Hey Rocky!
I've thought about doing it myself in several different fashions; one as you mentioned above. However I think I have decided due to time constraints to purchase one custom made. I think I will probably build the stand myself, and plan to run some finished trim on the corners to give the tank a nice "built-in" look so to speak. Make since?
1 price I received for acrylic was $515 for the 36x24x24. I think I could go to Inter-American and get a Starphire delivered that size for that price so I am still searching. Thanks, Scott Z. |

For inquiring minds, this is the type of tank I want, something more of a cube without outrageuos depth!

I know what you mean with the depth. I agree. Just when you think you have it all worked out to. I want a 48*48*18 tank for the next time. I have a few years to plan before we build another house though. I plan on putting it in the basement of our next home. I want to plumb it into an annex room behind it thogh. That way I can have my current 120 as a sump!!!
