RO or RO/DI
Two questions:
1. Which is better for corals? 2. If given a choice between a Kent MAX60HiS or an Oceanus, which would be the better unit, or are they basically the same? |

I believe that they would basically do the same thing, only the Oceanus is rated for 40 more gpd. Both are 4 stage RO/DI with the final being the DI to mop up what the R/O membrane misses. I live in Columbus, OH and the TDS from my tap has ranged from around 240-280. Water straight from the R/O membrane has about 20-25 and I have gotten 0-2 after the DI.
The Oceanus comes with a pressure gauge (I think), something that will cost extra with the Kent. Also, there are only a couple of membrane manufacturers, and all units use products from one of them, so it's possible that Kent is using the same membrane as in the Oceanus... I have a 5-stage 100gpd I got on E-bay for $139 +s/h. It doesn't have a gauge, but it seems to be working very well so far- the water tastes "clean" too!! LOL James |

Hi allykahn!
Both will do the same job as mentioned however Bryan at ARS does offer some great CS from what I hear! Additionally, you can get 15% off your Oceanus unit by mentioning the sponsorship banner here at Reefland. If you refresh the page a few times until the ARS banner shows up, you will see his 15% off offer!

I know Bryan from ARS and he has hosted our reefclub meetings before....At his business might I add! This guy does know his stuff when it comes to water purifying and the added bonus is he is a reefer and studys more on purifying for reef tanks! Kent is a great company dont get me wrong....but if you want info about water systems and you want itemized info then bryan at:
www.aquaticreefsystems.com Is your best bet....and like Scott mentioned...you get a discount and I can almost guarantee you that your prices are gonna be better. FWIW I personally think an RO/DI unit is much better than an RO unit for a reef tank. Allykahn really though even if you just call up ARS (which i think they have a toll free #) and just ask Bryan questions which he will gladly answer for you then im sure you will realize he is your best options. I Have no connections with Bryan but there are some ppl out there that have really gotten burned w/ RO and/or RO/DI setups in the past that is why I am SOOOO persistant with my point. |

BTW I almost forgot
I have a 100gpd setup that I bought from Bryan...it has all the bells and whistles....I just bought an Addon RO membrane to make it 200GPD and Bryan is now making his RO membrane housings Clear This is SOOOO Kewl and as far as I know he is the only one doing this...I Love seeing my water flow through my whole setup...it lets me see an internal view of everything! |
