Remora Pro Hang on + Rio2100 possible?

HI~
I have Remora Pro Hang On +Rio 1400 and a Rio 2100 pump.
Rio1400 doesn't work well. so I want to change pump.
I heard that Many people used Mag Drive 3.
Before Buying MagDrive, I would like to ask you guys about rio2100.
Is it possible to use rio 2100 with Remora Pro Hang on?
Is it too strong to use it?

Thanks in advance!

Have a good day~

I use the Mag3 (from marinedepot) with my Remora Pro, instead of the Rio on my 55g. After hearing all of the negatives about Rio meltdowns, I'm kinda leary of them.HTH.

The difference in flow rate is pretty great between those two pumps. You may want to send an e-mail to AquaC to get their thoughts.

Remora pro and urchin pro are just about identical except for
the adaptations for hang on. I had a new urchin pro laying around
and decided to use it to help cure some live rock. I initially used the
rio 1400 that came with it but was not impressed. I had a rio 2100 not being used. The rio made the spray injector more efficient by far.
this is definitely something to consider. I now use this skimmer on my
30gal quarantine/holding tank. with more organics being removed/ and oxygenation the fish and I are very pleased.

I'm not sure if there are any negative impacts but going from 380gph to 690gph seems a little great, especially when the manufacture is recommending ~350 for the skimmer. Anyone know what (if any) negative impacts one might encounter from using a higher gph pump on the skimmers spray injector?

I read the post that Reinhold used Mag Drive 5 with Remora Pro.
Mag5 is 500gph... Is it correct?
Mag5 is bigger and stronger than Mag3 that AquaC recommend.
but I remember he said it was not bad.~
Reinhold. How's That?

someone in korea used rio2100 with Remora Pro, and He said it was
not bad.

Most manufacturers usually tell you to use a smaller pump on their
product. YOU WILL SEE A DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT in foam production with a larger pump. I recently recieved about two weeks ago second gen. Ev 240. I was very impressed with improvements. The only thing is that they the manufacturer and distrubuter told me to use a iwaki 30rlt, sen 900, mag 12, or a lg4md. to my suprise after reading the manual it said good performance with these. but to use a iwaki40rlt for stronger performance and even a mak 4 with a ball valve after the pump before skimmer for Very high foam output.
so now I have a 30 rlt that is not going to be used luckily I already had a 40rlt that is about a year old. I wish I would have had this info before ordering. especially since I' running sharks.... yes yes I know but within a week I will have addapter to run ozone in it.
as far as the rio goes i would definatley use it Aquac rates their skimmer efficiency as a graph of pump pressure as opposed to skimmer efficiency. the lower the pressure the less effective too high of pressure yields same results... we all know the rio is not a pressure pump and since the urchinpro and remora pro do not have a gate valve to raise pressure the only thing to be increased is flow and air intake.

sorry for the long reply.... but this is info interpreted from manual

AquaC skimmer

I have a remora hang on style from Aqua C and love it. After trying a few skimmers, (Sea-"clown" and others) I finally got in touch with Jason at AquaC and he was very helpful (I mean VERY). Later on I had a small crack in my skimmer lid (from me dropping it I think), he sent a new lid out at no charge. He even modified my skimmer to have a fitting on the collection cup for me.
Anyway..as far as new pumps, I highly recommend talking with him or emailing him. I was worried about the meltdowns with RIOs and actually changed from the Rio he provided and now use a different powerhead that he recommended with great results. I switched to the Maxi-jet 1200 and it works a little better I think. You can't beat the near zero maintenance of the thing...it just keeps working. I've had mine set up this way for over two years.

Good luck with your skimmer

Using too strong pump with Remora Pro,
I think the micro bubble would be broken (interfere...?!)to each other.
Someone in Korea use remora pro hang on + hydo pump 40(55watt)
this pump was too stong, so micro bubble flowed in main Aquarium.

Too strong pump makes low efficiency about skimming and product of
micro bubble. IMO..

I think there is a proper limitation about pump....

what is that?

Jason Email is support@proteinskimmer.com
I just ordered a remora pro with a mag 5. he told me it is 20% more efficent than the mag 3. He also told me that people are using mag 7's without any problems.
