nitrates

hey guys

What do your nitrate usually sit at. I checked my water levels for the first time this month and my nitrates were some where around 9. I did a water change and am doing another five gallons tonight. Is there any sort of nitrate reducer that works.

Really a reading of 9 for nitrates is all to bad! If your looking to reduce it further, a water change will help temporarily but you have to look deeper into the cause. Nitrate reducers can work as well but if you have to continually use them, there is something missing from either your system or your maintanence routine. I beleive I read in another thread that you are looking to buy a skimmer? This could definitely get you moving in the right direction for an improvement.

I was also thinking that a skimmer would really help with the nitrates. I f you have any other advise please let me know.
