Do you have a reeftec?
I am upgrading to a 135 with dual overflow. I have a Mak 4 and I was thinking about splitting the return for both overflows from that pump, and adding a reeftec. Does anyone have a pic of a reeftec in a tank? Can you tell me if this would be a good choice for water flow? Thanks for your help.

Well I can tell you that it does create a pretty good flow which looks more like a huge cone of wave.
It works well for me but I am not sure if I would try it again considering I did a DIY version. The pump that one needs to buy separately takes up a lot of space in your aquarium. Imagine a RIO 2500 as a powerhead. If one doesn't cover the ?stainless steel shaft properly, it does rust from my experience. |

I like my Reeftec's. They seem to do a great job of making alot of current that is not unidirectional.
Please ignore my massive algea problem ![]() |

2 Reeftecs in a 90g???? I thought Reeftec only recommended 1 in a 90g tank and any tank up to 4 ft wide......If you went around 6ft is when you started getting into 2 reeftecs. How do you like them?

I'm not sure what Reeftec recommends, though If I remember correctly, 2 in a 90 was ok by them. I think they do a great job in providing a varied flow in the tank. My sps seem to expand their polyps further out than before. My fish are not bothered by them in the least and I've never had a problem with fish or snails getting chopped by the props. The amount of overall flow in the tank has increased compared to before when I had 3 maxijet 1200's in there. IMHO if you have an sps tank some kind of "wave making" unit is needed to provide alot of flow in a multidirectional fashion. For me, Reeftec does just that.

Be forewarned if you are considering a Reeftec that some issues are already arising in use of the Little Giant PE-1 pump.
http://www.reeftec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76 http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...ghlight=bottom I believe they are starting to recommend moving over to the Clavert Cal E200 pump as a fix. http://www.pumpworld.net/calvert.htm Think I will wait for the Tunze Turbelles to hit town. FWIW

How do these "reeftecs" do in a tank with a DSB? I am afraid of "milk" water 24/7
Also worried about splashing...I will be putting it in a 55gal tank. |

You can see from the pic I posted that initially they rearrainged the conture of the sand. After that things settle down and its now pretty stable. You have to keep in mind that these don't put out a stream of water like a Maxijet would, its more like a current than anything. The flow of water spreads our quickly after leaving the reeftec. I do have to say that I get better polyp extension from my sps since adding them and they create much more current than the 3 maxijet 1200's they replaced.
As I remember it only took about a week to 10 days from the time I ordered them till they arrived and I had them sent by the cheapest UPS delivery. |
