I'm not sure of the exact price but AcuaC makes a decent skimmer for around that price. If you add $50 or $60 you could pick up a Turboflotor from Ocean Encounter.

Mangrove,
You didn't mention anything about the size of your system or the loading. From experience I can tell you "Don't skimp on the skimmer". Some of the less expensive ones aren't very effective and if you are like most, you will be buying a better one before you know it. Ask how I know... Also see "Don't skimp on lighting" Maybe you could give us some more details of your system? Doug

Its a 55gal with a damsel, a clown, 16+ hermits, 15+ turbos, some mangroves in a 10gal sump, 10lb or so of LR, 1" LS and 3" sundown equivelant, running (2) 40watt NO bulbs for light. Soon to take the NOs off and have dual 250W MH in Iwasaki 65K. Drastic lighting change..

Forgot to ask, is the upgrade to the Maxijet 1200 from the Rio 800 a good idea?

I'd be up for making or buying a made one. I haven't really seen a good website that said exactly what size to cut X inch PVC pipe. What I mean is that most plans are very general in nature. Like ... "...use 4inch pvc and cut a piece and attach to flange b" Ok..how long do you cut it? Get the jest of what I am saying? ![]() |

Yes, they can be made for less than 159 but do you want a 6ft tall pc of 6" pvc pipe standing next to your tank in the living room
CC air stone skimmers relay on contact time (as do all skimmers) and to create a efficient skimmer the taller the tube allows for greater contact time of the air bubbles. I have built one but have yet to get it in action. Here again I have the room to place one of these so that you dont see it in the living room or have to hear it running. And Rocky (Scuba) has his in his greenhouse. My Greenhouse FARM In the making! Bottom of the page.

Tank size it handles which is related to pump size and overall height and size of skimmer itself, and $50

Also for a little more. Euroreef has a new ES-series skimmer the ES5-2 that goes for $198.00 w/pump. Euroreef skimmers are highly regarded for performance. It is an insump skimmer though.
