Sump? Pump? Eh? Sumps for dummies
Well, I really don't know what a sump does yet. I have a basic idea. But all this Sump jargon has made me just say "screw it". lol.
Some of you know, I have a new 30 gallon. I want to make my 15 gallon for something... (a sump) Does anyone know a site or thread of a simple step by step instructions on building a basic sump? and why do it? |

Cool... thanks for the link... Do you guys think I need one if I already have a skimmer? How much easier is water maintenance with it?

I would say yes to do you need one adds to water volume also you can hide heater skimmer etc there. As far as wc's go its not a big deal.

I ran a 30 g for a couple of years in my office and never had a sump.
IMO it is nice to have (sump) it allows for more water, a place to hide heaters, more flow, a place to add chemicals or carbon bags. But, it also creates a headache in creating one. I think its a good idea if you plans are to grow in the future, it will give you some experience with that aspect of the hobby. If money or time is tight then its not something you HAVE to do now.
