Wont make enough diffrence to worry about. Either place will work just as well.
I am figuring out my new tank and trying to decide where is better for for the drains on a closed loop. Are they better on the back panel or drill striaght through the bottom.
I would thing straight through the bottom for flow but getting to them to clean screens would be more of pain.
The closed loop would be a mag 9.5 with a 1 1/2" drain on a 70 gall tank I am having built I think.
Wher do you have yours

Timing has an awful lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
Place them away wherever they are not close to any other drains or outputs (especially away from outputs cuz this is defeating your whole purpose for current)....Drains = Current, with that said distribute your current how you want it....you know how you want to aquascape your tank think of the corals that would be near the back placement drains? or would the current be more beneficial from the bottom? I think its all relative to how you want to aquascape.Originally posted by tendar
