Mag 7 and Remora Pro, overkill?
I've been wanting to upgrade the pump on my Remora Pro from the rio, to a mag pump and I happen to have an extra mag 7 lying around. Would this be overkill or what? Has anyone tried this before and if so what kind of results did you have?

I used a Mag Drive 5 on my Remora Pro, and I think it would be possible to use the 7 on it, as long as the noise was tolerable.

Reinhold, thanks for the reply. Did you notice a big difference in production of skimmate with the mag 5? How often do you have to clean the waste cup?

The Mag pump increased the water flow dramatically without any increase in noise. After installing the "5" pump, I definitely noticed an increase in the skimmate. I had a lot of soft coral "snot factories," and I wound up emptying the cup every day or two.
Of course, you can raise the collection container in the Remora Pro to get a drier foam requiring less frequent emptying, but I left it at its lowest point to get the maximal amount of skimmate. I definitely think the pro could handle the increased flow of the "7" pump. |

Here is a photo of an average daily production with the Mag Drive 5.
