Regular people with skimmer knowledge/opinions click here.
I'm looking for some opinions on wich skimmer would be best for a fish only tank. It's a 55 gallon with an Emperor 400. The tank isn't overstocked, and I maintain it for the customer on a monthly basis. I have my opinion, I was just wondering what you all thought. This is for a customer of mine, he isn't against spending money on his tank, but he doesn't want to spend it unless he has to. Thanks in advance for your help.

AquaC get's my vote. I think an Urchin Pro (if the system has a sump) or the Remora Pro (if no sump) are decent skimmers. If you go with the Remora make sure to get the prefilter box and bubble trap.

I agree w/ scott and kevin....AquaC has a great following on them skimmers. LOL everytime you ask for a guru ppl probably feel intimidated to answer......I would not consider my self anywhere near a guru status, the dynamics of skimmers are probably best known by ppl that build them like aquaC etc etc. or some of the heavy hitting hobbyiest like Andy (myreef) or Geo on this board, which that could be another option you might want to consider they are both good ole boys and either of them wont take you to the cleaners.

I'll throw in a vote for EuroReef. We've been running our CS6-1 for 9 months without a single problem.

Is that better?
Thanks everybody for their help. I haven't ordered anything yet, so if anybody else wants to chime in, I would love to hear more input.

I'd agree with the AquaC Remora Pro, only I'd replace the Rio pump that comes with it with a Mag Drive 5.
I tried the prefilter box and bubble trap in a 55 gallon tank, but frankly, it's way too big for that size tank. I never really needed the box, and bubbles were never a problem with the Remora Pro. |

Afishybusiness,
I will definitely second the Euroreef skimmer recommendation. I have a CS6-2 on 90 gallon and it works flawlessly. Very consistent performance. I have owned several skimmers including the Remora pro and the Euro is my favorite. Your customer could get the new ES5-2 skimmer to keep costs reasonable($198.00) but they will still need some type of sump setup for this skimmer. It is insump only. Could do something simple for a sump like an overflow box and a 20 gallon aquarium.Or even a rubbermaid tub for the sump. Kramer1 |
