    Question CO2 Canister Question

I am looking into getting a Calcium Reactor. Any thoughts on the Korallin 1502?

    Is is a good reactor?

Also can you put the CO2 Canister on its side? It is the only way it will fit under my tank. Will this affect the system at all. I have only ever seen CO2 Canisters standing vertical.

    Thanks

Korallin is a good reactor but usually most reactors are considering they work almost the same.

I don't think it's a good idea to have the reactor on it side considering you might have more trapped CO2 than usual.

I would think you would also have poor mixing of saltwater if placed on it's side.

Thanks, should I just make sure the valve is slightly higher than the rest of the bottle, or is there no chance the liquid CO2 is going to screw with the regulator.

I am a welder by trade, you can lay it flat, it is only gas no liquid.

Woops. I thought you meant the reactor instead of the bottle.

    Is it safe?

I have a keg fridge and in the instructions it states it is unsafe to store a CO2 tank in a non upright/ vertical position. Of course there is no reason of why. I'm looking at settting up a CA reactor and I would be able to get a bigger tank if I could lay it horizontal. I just want to make sure it is ok.

Does anyone know why it could be unsafe?

it is safe as long as you do not break the valve off the top of the bottle, if some how that happend it whould become a torpedo, with enough force to pass through a cinder block wall. not very likley to happen unless you drop it on the valve or mabe are a little careless with a 4# hammer

I got this info from another board. Again I'm just passing on info that I have found. I just want to make sure it is safe before I do it. TIA

    **** from another board*****
Co2 cylinders CANNOT be layed on their side. Co2 is stored as a liquid. Gaseous co2 is siphoned from the top of the bottle. If the bottle is on its side, liquid co2 will be allowed to enter the regulator... not a good scenario!
