Reactor Media
I have a new reactor from GEO on the way (his new design) and want to know what you guys think of Knop VS A.R.M. as a media. I want to use the least amount of CO2 for dissolution. What do oy guys use / recommend?

The Karalith is 39.95 for 15 pounds and the arm is 10.00 for 8 pounds. I may try the ARM. George says the reactor holds 8 pounds of media. I just need to get another regulator gauge and I am set. I will order the ARM for now. It seems that you need less co2 to cause dissolution if it is metastable at 8.2. I had my old reactor effluent at 6.9 to maintain alk at 10-11 dkh and ca at 380
I always dosed kalk to.

I'm with Rocky...I have used ARM and Korallith in my Geo reactor, I always thought the ARM melted away too fast and cause lots of nasty unwanted alages. I'll pay the extra cash rfrom now on and use the Korallith.

The reactor is built like a tank!! I am impresses. I had a reactor in the past by another popular source but this beats that one to death. Very sturdy user friendly design. ***** for GEO

We ran ARM media for about a year or so. When we had our last plugged effluent line and subsequent melt down, we loaded some Carbisea Crushed Coral that was laying around (media isn't available locally). So far it is working fine. The only thing I've noticed is that it has pushed our ALK level very high. The pH is solid at 8.16 with 450 Ca, but the Alk is peaked at 13.1.

come on now, somebody must have opened a new jug and noticed
if it was wet or dry? the reason is i bought this at a shop i normallydon't visit and the place was real dirty & unorginized and i was looking all over town for it and i spotted a jug on the floor next to bags of crushed coral. the sad thing is it cost me 20.00 for 8 lbs |

All of the ARM media I've purchased has been moist out of the jug. Not dripping wet, but definitely moist.

How much do you mix ARM or any media with CC in terms of proportion? Can I just use exclusively CC?
BTW, the ARM is moist in the package. |

I know exactly what you are thinking.....this ole boy just sold me some ARM container filled w/ crushed coral!!! If you saw a bunch of shells in there and not a consistent sized little pieces of rock then yes he prolly did! other wise I wouldnt worry too much bout it. Quote:

Ca: 430 Alk: 12.8 DKH PH: 8.1 Effluent PH: 6.5 Sure would like to see some other readings from you guys out there w/these big reactors....especially a couple weeks after you tweaked it and it has stabilized....How bout some Effluent PH readings, and your media recipes.....Oh yeah i forgot to add...I just get a big bucket and I had about a couple of cups of Koralith left and mixed that with a bunch of CC but I bought the grain size of CC that was exactly the same grain size as arm and didnot have any shells in it....matter of fact it looked just like arm but was CC?!?! Anyone tried mixing Dolomite?
I have heard that mixing dolomite w/ crushed coral will help the magnesium....wondering if any of you guys have tried it and how many parts of dolomite to cc? Where do you get your dolomite and how much is it? Special kind of dolomite?
